| I'm gonna be #1....HA! Today we reported that Lupe Fiasco's album Lasers was dropping and he was MAD. After ranting about making NO money from his record label, and dissing the likes of Usher for his music sounding like everyone else, we've learned from Hits Daily Double that his album is set to debut #1 next week in America. This will come as a surprise to some because pop superstar Avril Lavigne (who we featured in New Music Tuesday over Lupe) dropped her latest effort Goodbye Lullaby the same day as Lupe. Avril's lead single 'What The Hell' is climbing the pop charts and with no Lupe single making any big impact in the commercial market, it seemed Avril would come out on top. But no. Early sales reports put Lupe's album #1 with sales in the 220,000 to 240,000 range, while Avril's album is headed for flops-ville with sales in the 85,000-90,000 range(ouch). This will give Lupe the biggest debut of the year for any male artist. Congrats to Lupe on his first #1 album. Maybe he'll stop bitching now? Probably not, he's like Kanye Jr. |
