News Fix - Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' Album Debut #1, Sells Over 1 Million Copies In First Week

Lady Gaga's new album Born This Way achieves a rare feat this week debuting #1 in America after selling 1.1 million copies in it's first week in stores. Very few females have sold over a million in a single week, and the most recent to do so was Taylor Swift.

However, some controversy is surrounding this accomplishment because Amazon.com had a sale on the album for 99 cents. The sale resulted in Born This Way selling 440,000 at the online retailer. So it's hard to say if Gaga legitimately obtained this sales achievement. On one hand she did sell 1.1 million, but on the other hand the album was practically given away.

It is VERY important to note that this 99 cent sale was initiated by Amazon.com, NOT Lady Gaga and her label. Lady Gaga/her label will still make the full amount of money off those albums sold for 99 cent. It's Amazon.com that is taking the profit lost. The internet-retailer axed the price of her album to 99 cent in an effort to gain traffic to there music store which has not been able to take any of iTunes 90% digital market share in recent years.
