News Fix - Lady Gaga Sued Over Japan Earthquake Charity Bracelets

Earlier this year when tragedy struck Japan after an earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit the country, Lady Gaga sprung into action to help. She sold 'We Pray For Japan' bracelets that she designed herself on her website with the promise that 100% of the proceeds would go to aid victims in Japan. However, a newly filed lawsuit by a Michigan-based law firm called 1-800-LAW-FIRM suggests that Gaga used the sale of the bracelets for personal profit.

The 'Born This Way' singer sold the bracelets for a wallet friendly $5, but buyers also had to pay $3.99 for shipping and handling, and $.90 in taxes. But the lawsuit claims that Gaga exaggerated those costs, overcharged for shipping and “artificially inflated reports of total donations.”

I gotta admit, those little bracelets could probably be shipped with one or two 35 cent stamps as opposed to four bucks. And more than likely 'shipping-costs' don't fall under the actual profits for the bracelets that went to Japan.

“While we commend Lady Gaga for her philanthropic efforts, we want to ensure that claims that ‘all proceeds will be donated to Japan’s earthquake’ are in fact true. Our intention via this lawsuit is to uncover any improprieties committed by Lady Gaga and appropriate the full donations assumed to the victims in Japan.” said Alyson Oliver, an attorney from 1-800-LAW-FIRM.
