News Fix: L.A. Reid Quits Job as Head of Island Def Jam

Music industry veteran L.A. Reid made it official today that he is kicking Island Def Jam Records to the curb. He will begin a new job as judge and mentor on FOX's upcoming new show X-Factor that's somewhat like American Idol. Reid has been with Island Def Jam for 7 years, and since joining the label he launched the careers of Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Kanye West, Rick Ross and Justin Bieber, as well as helped revive the careers of Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez. Prior to joining Island Def Jam he was the head of LaFace and Arista Records and while there he helped launch the careers of Usher, TLC, Toni Braxton and P!nk.

We think he makes a well qualified judge of talent and should be a good mentor on X-Factor.
